Hey, Everyone:

It’s Mike from Chili Pepper Madness. We have a new review for you for “Gringo Valley Original 10 Pepper Salsa”. See below.

My First impression

The label isn’t the best of labels, though it does illustrate one of the main selling points of the salsa. The salsa is made with 10 chili peppers, and you’ll get that right away from the label. Otherwise, packaging is nice, the label is clean, and I like how the salsa looks on the inside – nice and chunky.

The ingredients are listed as follows:

  • Roma tomatoes
  • Banana peppers
  • Spanish onions
  • Tomato paste
  • Yellow bell peppers
  • Red bell peppers
  • Orange bell
  • Green bell
  • Jalapeno
  • Anaheim
  • Cherry peppers
  • Fresno chili peppers
  • Cayenne
  • Habanero
  • Distilled vinegar
  • Salt
  • Garlic
  • Parsley
  • spices

It’s absolutely a nice combination to work with, but doesn’t this add up to 11 peppers?

Appearance/Smell/Taste

After popping off the top, you’re greeted with a wonderful aroma, if somewhat familiar if you’re a fan of traditional salsas. This is not a bad thing. There is something about plenty of chili peppers, tomatoes and spices that makes our mouths water, and this did the trick. Excellent aroma.

The color is good, though it might have been a touch more red, perhaps with a new balance of tomato? We wouldn’t say color was bad in any way, though, just more of a preference for something a tad more vibrant.

Flavor was great. We served ours chilled with traditional corn chips and downed half the jar fairly quickly. The original 10 pepper salsa is packed with plenty of heat – not too much for the die-hard chili heads out there, but it will satisfy. Even for salsa lovers that prefer milder heat levels, this might only be on the upper range of tolerance. We found the heat level pleasant and desirable.

The Party

We took our salsas to a small New Year’s Eve celebration and allowed our friends to sample. These were not chili heads, but your average salsa lovers. General comments from them included, “tastes a bit peppery” (meaning black pepper) and “it’s a bit on the spicy side”. Note that we didn’t experience the peppery taste, but we thought we’d include it here.

Overall, however, the Original 10 Pepper Salsa did satisfy and there wasn’t much left of the jar when we were done, so we’d definitely recommend this product to all of our chili pepper loving friends.
