Announcing the “Wings of Fire” event at the North Market Fiery Foods Festival

It’s T-minus one week until the 5th annual North Market Fiery Foods Festival here in Columbus, OH. There is a new event for this year worth mentioning that some of you who may attend won’t want to miss:
1:15 p.m., Wings of Fire! – A wing eating contest – Not your normal wing affair, this one will feature 6 rounds of 3 wings with a 3 minute break between each round. Each round will see an increase in the heat of the sauce. If there is more than 1 contestant left after the first 6 rounds, we will have a timed round consisting of 10 wings, the first one done or the one with the most eaten will be the winner of a $100.00 gift certificate redeemable at CaJohns Flavor & Fire!
The whole enchilada will be MC’ed by none other than Jason “Jolokia” Nowland. Those of you who attended the Weekend of Fire at Jungle Jim’s probably will remember Jason, he was the one with the movie camera running while he was dishing out the samples of the 10 products. He will bring a touch of levity to the event with his inimitable style and keep the fire rolling between demos with a variety of tastings.
This information comes straight from CaJohn’s Flavor and Fire blog. Since I won’t be saving my tender stomach for a chile pepper eating contest, I am toying with the idea of partaking in the pure unabashed gastronomic masochism that this contest could very well be. At the very least, Linda and I will be there to document the chicken wing carnage firsthand.
IMPORTANT: Entries are limited to fifteen (15) contestants and must be from people attending events at the North Market during the morning of the Festival. This is not a “competitive eating” event (like the Nathan’s International Hot Dog-Eating Contest), and professional competitive eaters are prohibited from entry into this event.

I so wish I could be there, but as of right now I can’t find anyone to share the expenses with me. So close to the Fiery Foods Show in Albuddahquerque makes it tough. I wanted to enter my “Mary had a little lamb” Chili into the amateur chili cookoff.

Great news Buddah! Keep a lookout for me, Joe, and Linda!
I was toying with doing this contest too, but the main round is 18 wings and then 10 wings if you make it to the end and someone else did too. That’s waaaayyy to many wings for me. I can barely eat 12 wings on a really empty stomach.

It sounds like some training is in order!!!

Will do Jon. I wish I could do the wing contest, but after my stomach surgery I can only eat slowly and would never get through the 1st 3 wings in time, let along the laong haul of it.
I hope the weather holds up. The last I looked, there was a storm on the way.

Count me in. I don’t think I’m going to have to work so I’ll be there. Don’t know how to go about signing up but Buddah mentioned to me that I am a contestant. Sounds like fun!
