Well, it looks like it’s time again to do another of our infamous releases of the evil ZERO Habanero elixir. Those of you that are not aware of this stuff, it’s the hottest stuff we make. It’s been over a year since the last release (The Batch #4), and due to popular demand, we have fired up the lab, and are in the final stages of making the next batch of this stuff. From the harvest so far, due to an extra procedural step, it looks as if this little gem will be rarer than some of the past releases, oh yeah, and substantially hotter. We don’t know the final count yet but it will be relatively low in number (compared to the Batch #2,3 & 4). We are also trying to make some ½ ounce non-collector bottles, so you can try the stuff. Again, we don’t know how many of these we will have either, so don’t expect a ton of them.
We are looking to unveil these evil monsters sometime in August, and if at all possible to unveil them at the Weekend of Fire show at Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield, Ohio on August 2nd (Go to www.Junglejims.com for more details, it’s a LOT of fun!). . The design of these vessels is completely different from any we’ve done in the past, and a lot of extra detail has been put into the manufacturing of the collectors bottle. I won’t go into detail, but the collector bottle will actually be a matching “set”, so to speak, and each bottle will be unique in its own way.
There will be no pre-ordering this time around. If these are available at Jungle Jim’s, we will bring a small amount of them to be sold at the show, and people will pick their bottle numbers out of a hat, to make it fair. After the show, we will send out the e-mail for the rest of them, on a first come first serve basis. With the limited number of these, I doubt they will stay on the shelves for very long, so act fast! Considering there will probably be fewer of the ½ ounce taster bottles, they will NOT be at Jungle Jim’s, although you are more than welcome to stop by our booth and have a sample of the stuff (I always have a little bit of it with me).
It’s been a long time since we put one of these gems out, and I guarantee you’ll like what you see. The Createss (a.k.a. The Wife Unit) thought I was a little insane doing what we’ve done, but she certainly likes the results.
With that being said, I wish everyone luck in obtaining our latest Vessel of Exquisite Pain. Once again, if you can’t make it to Jungle Jim’s, keep an eye out for the ZERO e-mail stating they are available, our inventory of them won’t last long!
Creator out…….

I want to give you heads up on some other things. We are almost ready to kick off Ozzy’s Axeman and Black Label Society founder Zakk Wylde’s Berserker Sauce Line, as I have really gotten to know the World of Zakk in the last 6 months, I have to tell you he is one real chilihead and needless to say a guitar legend that Speaks for Himself. We are planning on debuting the sauce line at OzzFest in July 2008. After speaking with Zakk last week he told me he is having a Limited Number of his Custom Signed Les Paul Guitars made for me to give out to a special few chilihead locations around the globe this fall (Over $6,000 Value Each). Ok I have so much to tell you about but I need to stop. I need to talk instead of type. Anyway, will speak to ya soon, with so much more to tell ya.
FEEL ALIVE!Berserker Original
Your chilipal,
Blair
This isn’t exactly new news for most, especially those on Blair’s email list. We’re just repeating it for those who may not have gotten word of this when it first came out. We’re also working behind the scenes to hopefully do something special with this, especially for those Zakk Wylde fans who may find their way over to this site.
More news to come, we hope.

I think this article from Epi-Log on Epicurious.com pretty much speaks for itself. While not known for being a fan of Tabasco, or their products, this might almost be worth forking out a few bucks:
Chile Head Alert: Limited-Edition Tabasco Sauce
by Megan O. Steintrager
on 05/22/08 at 06:40 PMAll you hot sauce collectors out there might want to consider heading over to Tabasco.com for a bottle of limited-edition Avery Island Reserve Tabasco, named after the island in south Louisiana where the sauce was created by Edmund McIlhenny and is still made. To celebrate its 140th anniversary, the family-owned McIlhenny Company released 2,500 5-ounce bottles of the fiery stuff.
What makes it so special? “Avery Island Reserve is aged and processed the same as original Tabasco Sauce,” says Paul McIlhenny, president and CEO of McIlhenny Company. “The difference is that it’s made from just the finest Avery Island peppers that are hand-selected by McIlhenny family members. Because these peppers are at their peak ripeness - fiery in color and heat - the Reserve is noticeably brighter in color and heat.”

When we auctioned off a set of these to support the Raising the Heat for Autism event, this was the only item to be ratcheted up above its initial bid on eBay. Admittedly, these are pretty darn cool and although I’d never consider doing anything with them except displaying them on the collectible shelf at home…I’d love to have a set for my own. Here’s some info from eMediawire on how you can get one for your collection:
Mad Dog Hot Sauce creator David Ashley has signed and certified his new Hot Sauce Extracts exclusively available at FireHotSauces.com. No more than 25 of each extract will be signed and will come with a certification of authenticity and display case. Only 3,000 bottles in total were produced of these special extracts ranging from 2 million to 5 million Scoville units.
Boston, MA (PRWEB) January 22, 2008 –David Ashley, founder of the Ashley Food Company and long time Hot Sauce creator, has made an exclusive agreement with FireHotSauces.com to Sign 25 each of his newly created hot sauce extracts. The sauces are aptly named 22 Midnight Special, 38 Special, 44 Magnum and 357 Mad Dog Pepper Extracts for the capsicum firepower they are packing. The pepper extracts range from the super hot 2 Million Scovilles in the 22 Midnight Special up to the blistering 5 Million Scovilles in 357 Mad Dog pepper extract. The signed and numbered bottles at FireHotSauces.com will be the only bottles David will sign and will be only available from Fire Hot Sauces. All the sauces will come in a plastic display case and a letter of authenticity.
In addition, a special offering of all four signed #1 bottles will be sold as a set for $595.00. Each sauce signed and numbered from #2 through #25 will be sold separately in the range from $75.00 to $150.00.
Only 3,000 bottles in total were produced of these special extracts, 750 of each of the four versions. The premium Oleoresin Capsicum used to create them is from India and ranges from 1,000,000 to 5,000,000 in Scoville units. The farmers who are contracted to grow the peppers that the extract is taken from take care to dry and store the peppers properly so that the pepper extract is pure and has no bitter taste.
Founded in 1991, The Ashley Food Company has earned an international reputation for high quality products made with only premium, all natural ingredients. David Ashley has created some of the hottest and best known hot sauces on the market today. These four new extracts are the newest members to his ever growing family of sauces, condiments and extracts.
FireHotSauces.com launched in 2005 and brings together the hottest and collectable hot sauces to one location on the internet. It specializes in hard to find collectible items for the Hot Sauce enthusiasts.

The stars finally aligned and we were able to go down to the North Market and put the finishing touches on the “Epidemic Proportions” hot sauce collectible that has been the centerpiece of our Raising the HEAT for Autism charity fund raiser that’s been going since mid-December. Mugging for the camera, you can see Joe raising one of the finished bottles in triumph after an afternoon of bottle-decorating creativity. Those of you who have ordered bottles and paid for them, we should be able to ship them out in the next week or so.
Just for fun, let us walk you through how these were made…just so you in the Internet ether can see what fun we had doing this and what went into making the latest in collectible hot sauces for your display shelf, or for culinary use in your kitchen.

The bottles were previously sealed, but had yet to be labeled. So, each bottle had their label affixed by hand. Unlike some bottles where the number in the series is written in gold ink or something like that, each bottle has the number printed on the back (e.g. 1/150) so there’s no ambiguity as to which bottle has what number.

(The bottle you see here is not the collectible bottle, but rather what the sauce looks like in a regular five-ounce woosy.) First thought…the peppers. John’s idea was to make a green sauce. Having recently been to the Open Fields event and seen a ton of not-quite-ripe peppers, the thought was to use some peppers that were fully grown but not quite fully ripe…hence the greenness of the peppers. We elected to use the green versions of both red savina habaneros and fataliis.
Given the peppers that were chosen, we knew the sauce was going to be pretty darn hot. However, we wanted to ramp it up yet another level. So, we opted to include some Naga Jolokia to give it that extra capsaicin oomph. So, with Jolokia, red savina habs, and fataliis, we had the makings of the truly hot sauce we wanted.
Next task was to add those all-important seasoning elements. Garlic and onion were a given to us, since those tastes go so well in hot sauce. Lime juice was another excellent taste idea, and would add a little more tartness to the sauce. And what goes best with lime juice? Well, tequila of course! John added a little bit of Sauza tequila as well. Add a little crushed red pepper for color and some Mexican oregano for taste with some miscellaneous other spices as well. Finish off the brew with some vinegar for liquidity and voilà…a hot sauce masterpiece. What follows are some pictures of the sauce as well as some tasting notes.
