Weekend of Fire – Chili Rocks
NEW VENDOR – Chili Rocks
How did you get started with your business? George Phelps is a retired firefighter from the Cincinnati, Ohio area and owns a sports bar called Sneaky Pete’s.
Like many firefighters current and past, he has a fondness for hot sauces. Since he was specifically in the arson unit for many years, his sauces have themes. Themes like Pyromaniac, Incendiary, and others.
Which of your products is your favorite? Hot & Spicy BBQ. It is his number one seller and the winner of some awards already. It is a wonderful sauce that is not too sweet and very balanced.
What are your plans to expand or future marketing plans? Chili Rocks is already distributed in several local Cincinnati stores, including Jungle Jim’s and, I quote, “They have plans to take over the world.” Yes, think of your best Pinky & the Brain imitation right now. But, seriously, do to a close legal call with Hard Rock Cafe (a story saved for another time), they were highly energized to not only take this to the next level, but several levels beyond.
Of the products we tasted, we liked: The Hot & Spicy BBQ, which we mentioned above. The Ghost Chile salsa was really good and had an excellent consistency and flavor to follow. Their mustard sauce was an amazing every day mustard that is spicy, but not overwhelming and very tasty. And their wing sauce is very, very good. When it came to their hot sauces (non-specialty), we felt many of them were very vinegar laden. So, if you like that, you will love these sauces!!!
