NEW VENDOR – Captain Jim’s Sauces

captainjims

How did you get started with your business? Captain Jim is an employee of the Hoosier state of Indiana, and was suggested to grow peppers by a neighbor who had extra garden space. After growing some regular peppers, he started to grow spicier chiles. As the chile gardening went into overdrive, Jim had to decide how to use all those peppers so he opted to turn them into hot sauces and salsas. EVERY chilehead has probably thought of doing that with their garden, but Jim managed to pull it off. His products are made in a local commercial kitchen and also with the help of Crazy Uncle Jester.

Which of your products is your favorite? ALL OF THEM. Although when pressed, Jim seems to favor the Caribbean Dream for its combination of flavors. It is also his best-selling sauce.

What are your plans to expand or future marketing plans? Captain Jim’s sauces are available in 4-5 stores in the Indianapolis area, as well as at Jungle Jim’s. He is working on other retail and specialty markets as well.

Of the products we tasted, we liked: Honestly, they are all really good. Ever think of putting hot sauce on ice cream? Try the Molten Orange Ambrosia…it is heavenly. The Hot Double D is very much like a complex, spicy steak sauce. The Caribbean Dream manages to taste a bit like a spicy Blood Mary mix, without having ANY tomato in it. A truly unique sauce. Check them out!
