Wow! I can’t believe it’s been a little over three and a half years since I reviewed a product from Fat Kid Sauces. While I’m still disappointed he isn’t using chubby children chunks in his products, I still find them to deliver the goods. This time, I’ll be taking a look at the Hot version of his Fire Roasted Red Pepper Salsa.

Fat Kid Sauces Fire Roasted Red Pepper Salsa: Hot Ingredients: Tomatoes, fire roasted Red Peppers, onions, vinegar, garlic, Jalapeno peppers, Red Savina Habanero, lime juice, turbinado sugar, fresh cilantro, black pepper, sea salt.

The label on this salsa is very true to all his other labels despite the fact that his label artist has stopped working on labels (which was a sad day in the industry) and John Grabiec (owner of FKS) had to doctor it himself. Inside the jar is a visual playground of various ingredients in the medium to fine chunkiness range with the most dominant chunks being tomatoes and onions.

First taste to hit the palate is the turbinado sugar which pairs well with the tomato and roasted Red Peppers. Man, I love a good roasted pepper product because the roasting gives it a very distinct taste and concentrates the sugars nicely. Up next is the lime juice which was a little distracting but faded fast followed by the onions and that signature fruity flavor of Red Savina Habanero. Coming in on the back end is the garlic, black pepper and Jalapenos.

The heat description on the label is adequate. It starts out in the center of your tongue from the Jalapenos then slowly creeps to the back of the throat from the Red Savina. It was a nice lingering burn too, not just a quick hit and dissipation. Hot enough to slow down my consumption, but not hot enough to make me stop for a recover period.

Over all, this is a very fresh, bright tasting salsa. I thoroughly enjoyed it on chips and scrambled into some eggs in the morning. John Grabiec suggested to mix it with cream cheese and eat it with crackers or on a beagle slice.

Taste: 8.9, Heat: 7.45
