Unbelievably, it’s been nearly four whole years since Chuk did a review of the Jac’s Tailgaters products. Until just a few months ago, we did not know if they were even still in business. When we caught up with Tracy

and Kristi Carter on the 2010 Spice of Life Cruise, we found out that not only were they still in business…but business was improving by leaps and bounds. Long gone were the days of the old paper labels and now their products have quite a professional look and feel to them.

When Tracy pressed this bottle of new Cajun Fury salsa into my hands a few months ago and said “Go ahead and tear it apart with a review if you like,” we could not help but view this as an entirely personal challenge. This jar looks innocent enough on the outside, right?

The ingredients are pretty straightforward:

Ingredients: tomatoes, water, onion, jolokia, jalapeno, and habanero peppers, spices (including salt, garlic, and black pepper), sugar, citric acid

Jolokia and Habanero peppers in a salsa? When Linda offered to taste this one first, I immediately wondered if we had any ice cream to put out the fire once she spontaneously combusted.

What I liked about it: Wow, what a GREAT pepper aroma! So many salsas are so heavy in tomato and that’s all you can smell, or sometimes even taste. Nice smoky taste with great flavor…that is, until the heat simply overwhelms. It was sorta like being in a spicy chicken wing contest. You have to try and eat as much as you can, as quickly as you can. Once you stop, the heat level catches up with you. Both of us were sucking wind a little as we finished our small bowl! Even though it is a tremendously hot salsa, the heat does not compromise the flavor like a extract salsa’s would.

What I didn’t like: For us, it was tough to criticize this product. It IS a little bit on the thinner side, so those who like thicker, more chunky salsa may not dig the consistency. However, this is a pretty minor thing.

Overall recommendation: This is a quality product from Jac’s. We know this to be the third review of this product here by our set of reviewers, and each one has had glowingly positive things about it. If you can’t handle the heat, then stay away. However, those diehard chileheads who want a salsa that will challenge, assault, and abuse your heat sensors with a pretty tasty salsa, then this is a salsa to keep on your “want” list. Enjoy!
