2010 Fiery Foods Show, day 1

I wanna be an Oscar Mayer wiener, bay-bee!
Well, the first day here in sunny Albuquerque, NM is coming to a close and what a long day it has been. First of all, I’ve been getting adjusted to living on Mountain Standard Time…so I still feel a couple of hours off from my normal EST time clock. Secondly, it’s just freakin’ gorgeous here right now. The air is clean, the mountain scenery is gorgeous, and it’s getting to about 60 degrees during the day. Lastly, the show looks like it will be quite a success.
To say that this show has the potential to be the best in a few years is saying something. Blair Lazar is here amongst his fanboys here to much acclaim, and he has some long-awaited new products that he is debuting here at the show. Overall, the products here have an overwhelming New Mexican feel to it, with no shortage of red and green chile to be found in and with a lot of the products that are available here. One thing that I’ve noticed is quite the preponderance of confectioners here at this show. If you like chile chocolate and other spicy-sweet goodies, then this is the show for you. Had some great green chile caramel and white chocolate candy bars with chile in it today, and will certainly be picking up some more tomorrow to take back home.
The best part of the whole day was getting back to the hotel for the evening and finding the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile parked next to our spot in the parking lot. After professing our praise for the Wienermobile to the driver who was unloading it at the time, we were rewarded with our own “Wiener whistle,” a “I Saw It!” wienermobile sticker, and a picture of ourselves with the Wienermobile itself. Sadly, the picture didn’t turn out because it was out of focus and too dark, but it was still a very cool experience to end a memorable first day here in New Mexico.

Tracy, sending people your way from the show. You need to get some info about your show out there so people know where to look via a website. There is excitement for a show in New Orleans.
Show has been fun so far hanging out with our blog cartel group of Joe, Scott, and now includes Mike aka the Hot Sauce Guru. The 4 of us have been doing impromptu video reviews at the show. We also added Xero, ChileheadEd and the popular chilehead Cheffy to our mix of reviewers. Parker’s contributions were more of the unwelcomed kind as the air around him became quite spicy and brought tears to our eyes much like extract sprayed in our face.
Overall these are a great group of guys and so far its been a very fun trip. Heading to Santa Fe today for a green chile cheeseburger at Bobcat Bites, from the Diners Drive-Ins and Dives show.

Buddah, I thought the New Orleans show was a done-deal for June. Is it not? Knowing when in June would be great, too. I may actually prefer to go to that show than Zest Fest since I’ve never been to NOLA. Anyway, heard about the noxious fumes last night.
Joe, very cool about the weinermobile swag.
