Confetti Peppers

We were introduced to the Confetti Peppers products at this past Jungle Jim’s Weekend of Fire show, and wasn’t really sure what to think of them…other than that they tasted good in all the samples we tried. However, would these be a niche sorta item or would it be a condiment that we would use in a variety of stuff?
The first jar we opened was their Jalapeno Pepper ribbons, as we cook with jalapeno peppers more than other other pepper than doesn’t have the word “bell” in front of it. The concept of these products is not revolutionary, but damn is it still really good. The cool thing about all the Confetti Peppers products is that they are all with peppers in canola oil, rather than in vinegar. So many pepper mixtures/relishes are so tart in vinegar that it carries that over to whatever food you use it upon. This is essentially jalapenos, red bell peppers, and a mixture of spices. What’s not to like about that?
We used this in a variety of veggies mixes, either sauteed or otherwise cooked for side dishes. Added to pasta sauces, it added a nice jalapeno flair to an otherwise mundane night of pasta. A great use is to add it to stuff like tuna and egg salads, since those can be a little bland.
So what did we not like? Very little. Our only complaint was that it seems to be a little heavy on seeds, which gives an element of grittiness to this that we didn’t like.
Our recommendation is a hearty thumbs up. If you are a fan of jalapenos and want a mix of them that you can use in a variety of foods, then consider grabbing a jar of these.

Our jar of this is called Mexican Pepper Ribbons, but the name has been changed on a recent set of labels to indicate these are now called Spicy Pepper Ribbons, although their website still calls them by the old name. Whatever they’re called, it substitutes banana peppers for the jalapeno peppers in the above product. Everything we said above about the jalapeno pepper ribbons applies to this, but the flavor profile changes because the banana peppers make this mix a little sweeter and slightly more tart.
We liked these a little more for their flavor out of the jar as opposed to cooking them with food, so we used this pretty liberally in a variety of foods. A GREAT sandwich condiment, both in your simple made-at-home sandwich or tried spread liberally over store-bought burgers and Subway sandwiches.
Our annoyance with the seeds in this one is a lot less than the other, so perhaps banana pepper seeds are a lot softer or less gritty than jalapeno seeds. There are still quite a few and we would want less, but it has no effect on the flavor of the product, only its consistency. Overall, this one’s a winner too. A different flavor than the jalapeno ribbons, but one that is every bit as good and useful. Thumbs up as well!
Confetti Peppers also has two other varieties, the Mild Pepper Ribbons and Hot Pepper Ribbons. We’re not going to review those here, but can tell you that those are winners as well.
