We read this article recently and wanted to bring it to your attention. This was one of the salsa brands we tried as part of the recent contest for the Weekend of Fire show this past August. We actually tried the Nice N Hot salsa, not the Severe, but it was really damn good. In a world with a lot of good salsa, we like to see the good ones have some level of success. Most people watch a cooking show to get a recipe for a holiday family gathering, add variety to their next feast, or learn to cook simple meals.

Alamogordo’s Art Weingaertner was watching a chef make a simple hot sauce on a cooking show, then tried to make it.

Through trial and error, Weingaertner started his Xerarch’s (pronounced zer’urk) salsa home-based business.

“I was watching the chef making the hot sauce,” Weingaertner said. “I figured I could do it. I had all the ingredients, but I screwed up the hot sauce. I tried it again and ended up making a salsa instead.”

He has won Yummiest category of the StartupNation’s 2009 HomeBased 100 competition on Nov. 5. Weingaertner won free advertisement, business advice and help with his Web site.

StartupNation is a free online service founded by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs. The site hails itself as a “one-stop shop for entrepreneurial success with practical information for people to start and grow their own successful business.” It conducts a yearly business competition in a number of different categories.

Weingaertner is also a Holloman Air Force Base Fire Department dispatcher and 911 operator.

Weingaertner said he was thrilled to win the contest for the Yummiest food.
