Passow Leaves For Open Fields

I’m finally getting an opportunity to do something I’ve been dieing to do for a while. Last year I missed out on going to Jim Campbell’s Open Fields. For those that don’t know, Jim Campbell and his pepper farm has supplied a lot of the major industry players with peppers for their products.
I vowed to not miss it this year, so I saved up, requested time off, got my car fixed for the 6.5 hour hall, and on Friday morning I’m off to Indiana. It’s going to be good to see some old friends, some new faces, and the idea of camping amongst the peppers delights both the chili-head and the boy scout in me!
So be sure to check back next week for the start of my reviews of the event!

doubt if I show up now. I don’t like the rain and I’ll probably just stay home and keep dry.

Went ahead and went in the rain. Rained all the way there on my 90 mile drive. Got there and got with Bill and Sandi and Bret was there with them. Got there just in time to samole a big ole steak Bill had cooked on the grill. Mighty tender and tasty. Even though it rained all night long both Friday and Saturday it was pretty nice during the day on Saturday and Sunday. Got some peppers to practice making sauce with, ate some good food, hung out with good people and all in all had a great time.

I’m back home now. Tired from the long drive, not much sleep do to a generator 5 rows down from me, got bags of pods, and I came back happy and full. What an amazing event. Going to bed now, but tomarrow I’ll start narrowing down the photos and get to writing.

That looked like fun! Jon I didn’t know you had smile behind that lov-e-ly beard you had in August.
Ok so all you growers out there, any advice for a girl with no land, just pots for the peppas?

Thanks Jen! Ya, I didn’t know I had a smile either. It’s been 3 years since I’d seen my face.
Here’s some advice for you (as a pot grower myself……wait…that didn’t come out right……or did it…). Give them at least 5 gallon pots and use a mixture of sand and FoxFarm soil. It’s expensive, but it’s the best stuff around. Use a mixture of Ocean Floor and Happy Tree Frog for the best results.
