Passow Gets The General Hurt Put On Him

Continuing my series of reviews of product received at the 2008 Weekend of Fire is General Hurtin’ from Mild to Wild Pepper Company. This is a sauce in honor of Jim’s brother-in-law and part of the proceeds of the sauce go to the Lieutenant General Timothy J. Maude Foundation.
General Hurtin’ Ingredients: Our own hand selected Habanero peppers, vinegar, onions, garlic spices, herds, salt.
Now, before I go into this review I was told by Jim’s wife that this sauce needs to have the labels changed because it is/will be a Fatalii based sauce. I say “is/will be” because I can’t remember which she said and this sure as heck tastes and burns like Fataliis are already in there.
The appearance on this one erks me. This is that “mustard-yellow” color that I have a phobia to so it made reviewing this sauce interesting. I just had to repeat to myself, “It’s not mustard, it’s not mustard….my god it looks like mustard…but it’s not mustard…you can do this, Jon”. It has a nice consistency to it though, hovering between thin to slight medium.
The taste is great on this, nice upfront citrus, fruit Habanero/Fatalii taste that gives away to the onions with a fairly decent vinegar bit to it. The vinegar taste is slightly distracting and I’m having a hard time getting past that. But once you cook with it that taste seems to vanish completely which is a bonus.
Up next comes the garlic followed by a small aftertaste of what I like to term as “green” which would be the select herbs. No salt taste what so ever….extra bonus! The heat on this is spot on and is true to the name of the sauce. This will put a hurt on you especially in small doses. Excellent back of the throat burn and a long linger of pain for where every it touches.
Taste: 7, Heat: 8
