Hi Folks,

I was lucky enough to be sent some chilli oil from David’s Chilli Oil. David as he is known had this to say:I have been creating Chilli Oil for a number of years to enliven food with a delicious heat. The mix of heat and flavour has been carefully balanced to produce a prolonged and tantalising taste sensation, perfect for drizzling over hot or cold food.

“Davids Chilli oil provides that elusive ZIP which transforms good stews, pastas, soups, shepherds pie etc - even curries into culinary delights.” Well, I eat everything on that list so I checked out the ingredients, they are as follows:

Dried Chilli - ( Birds Eye )

Oil - Rapeseed oil, including R-Oil extra virgin cold pressed rapeseed oil from the Cotswolds. It is a rich source of Omega 3 and Omega 3 fatty acids as well as being very low in saturated fat.

Ground Nut Oil - A luscious and healthy monounsaturated fat.

Garlic - Garlic has been reputed to assist the heart for centuries and has been used in herbal medicines for all manner of conditions. Garlic & cholesterol reduction are frequently mentioned together.

Blackbeans - An excellent source of protein and nutrition.

Ginger - Ginger has been used to aid digestion and treat stomach upset, diarrhea, and nausea for more than 2,000 years. Since ancient times, ginger has also been used to help treat arthritis, colic, and heart conditions. In addition to these medicinal uses, ginger continues to be valued around the world as an important cooking spice and is believed to help the common cold, flu-like symptoms and headaches.

Mixed spices - A wonderful array of mixed spices further enhancing the flavour and texture.

Chilli - Individualy selected exotic chillies from Farmcote herbs and chilli peppers.

Wow…this is not your average oil, a lot of love and attention has gone into producing this. So with a heavy heart (”not”) I tucked in.

Well you know that your onto a good thing when the smell hits you and you think yummmmmmmmm, no sooner had I popped the lid my mouth was watering, the smell of ground nut oil was divine. This oil is so packed full of flavour that I couldn’t wait to try it on some food, and as luck would have it the better half was making a stir fry, I had to add the oil after the meal was cooked although the beauty of this oil is you could/should cook with it and drizzle over well anything, this made the meal for me and i don’t say this lightly, to add a warm flavoursome zing to most foods is my idea of heaven, the stir-fry didn’t last long and the heat was perfect, not mind blowing, but who wants to ruin good food, just a nice quality burn that would suit everybody. This oil does pack a punch but only at middleweight which means that it can be used on everything on a daily basis, I wouldn’t want this oil any hotter, its well… perfect heat. This oil was so good that it would improve most foods that it was added to. Pizza is a must, my weekly “delivered” chili pizza was transformed into a culinary masterpiece fit for a king, if you give this oil a good stir not only do you have the oil but “bits” which was spread over the pizza . I also made a spicy pasta dish and again it was the best I have ever had, just drizzle and enjoy, it’s as simple as that, one other point, is marinading, just coat your meat over night and cook. I tried this with cubed chicken and it worked a treat, better than I ever thought, and the uses of this oil is endless!

I think the label could do with a tweek, as it shouts homemade but it’s fine for now, maybe some colour for stand out. My advice is because this is the best quality chilli oil I have ever tasted I would go for a classic style not too funky, but keep it simple but effective.

As for heat, well I would give it a 7/10 its perfect for most.
For Flavour it has to be 10+ (which i don’t say often)

Overall, the best chili oil I have ever tasted, the flavour is out of this world and has to be tasted to be believed, David has created a winner and i hope this oil gives him the success it deserves, Harrods maybe. Well done David…Brilliant.

You can view the website at: www.davidschillioil.com and he is very active at chilli events up and down the UK

Take care chilli lovers
Later, Woody
