Happy Birthday, Joe
I’m not sure what is going to be more surprising or pleasing to Joe about this post; that I actually wrote here for once, or his gift which I’m about to explain.
Dear Joe,
Buying gifts for you can be difficult. It’s not that I don’t know what you like. It’s simply hard to justify buying things with our taste when we’re still on a shoe string budget. We talked about this the other day when you asked me to wait to buy you that Zune you want. I think you’re actually going to be pleased that you did that.
Why am I posting this here? Well, your birthday gift this year is hot sauce. No, not just any hot sauce. It had to be special. It had to be something you’ve been wanting for a while. It had to be something on a wish list. Do you know the one I’m talking about yet?
On your Facebook wish list there is a bottle of hot sauce. Dave’s Insanity Special 2006 Holiday Edition. When I read that there are hardly any left I was skeptical, but I found out the hard way. There are not a whole lot left and most places online are selling them for $300+. We couldn’t swing that. I knew that. So I did what I thought should be done. I contacted Dave. I expressed my tale of woe and how much I wanted this to be a surprise for your birthday. I said I couldn’t afford the prices out there and did he know of any place I could get one for less. I waited.
I heard back from his office with some great news. Not only was one available, it was the one sitting on Dave’s desk which they were more than pleased to pass on for your birthday. It is #86 and apparently valued at over $500. Better yet, it is signed specifically to you. So, here you go, honey. Happy Birthday! She is waiting for you at home. I was going to wait until you got here to open it up and be surprised, but I thought reading about it here would be even better.
I love you!

(yes, the front is a bit smudged and that is my fault…a story for later)

P.S. No, it wasn’t free. But, it WAS less expensive than I could have gotten it elsewhere.

WOW! What an amazing gift your loving wife has gotten you! Hapy birthday my friend. May many more pass your way until you are old, decrepid, in a nursing home shitting your dippers while yelling at some nursing staff to change the channel to Perry Mason and that “back in the day” you had to walk 40 miles in the snow just to get batteries for the remote so that you could change the channel and the younge whipper-snappers never had it as good as you did back in the day……………….ok, so I’m not that good at birthday wishes….hehehe
Coincidently, today is my b-day as well.

We had a chile pepper cake for our wedding. Does that count? There was even a pic of it in Chile Pepper Magazine.
I think Joe really needs to respond to how he liked his present, here.

Happy B day to you both Joe and Jon. Just remember, I will always be older than you both.
Commented at August 28, 2008- 5:22 pm
Oh, crap, forgot to say Happy B-day to Jon! It’s kind of cool that you both have the same birthday and write for this blog. Maybe next year I can swing two gifts of fire.

I’m looking at this bottle on my shelf right now, and I am admittedly blown away by what a cool gift this is. My comment to Linda when I saw this post was this:
“I may need to check my sources on this, but you may in fact be the coolest wife…ever!”
I get the biggest kick out of this, especially since I now know the story behind it.
