The Hot Zone

Spicy snacks that are actually both good and spicy are hard to come by, but Kentucky’s own KP’s Specialty Pepper Products has a formula for products that have every chance at becoming hugely popular. Makers of some novel spicy nuts and a few hot sauces, we became acquainted with them at this past Jungle […]

All American Hot Sauce
“Original Full Bodied”

- by Buddah

I cracked open my bottle of the Original Full Bodied All American Hot Sauce at the Washington Nationals new ballpark. I wasn’t supposed to bring it into the ballpark. Yet, I figured they would check my camera bag before they check my pockets, so it was an easy sneak as I knew it would be. I have the 20 game plan and know they don’t frisk anyone going into the new ballpark from previous visits. So in I went into Nationals’ Park to watch the America’s pasttime while testing out the All American Hot Sauce.

From the looks of the sauce, it looks like dirty dish water. Not the prettiest of sauces. It reminds me of the basic oil and vinegar salad dressing I love to get at italian restaurants. The smell is light and not overpowering on the nasal cavity. You can smell the vinegar through and through. I wanted something special to work with the vinegar of the hot sauce. The ingredients are as simple as ingredients will get in a hot sauce, and the non-viscous liquid would work best if it was to soak into something rather than roll off. Out of all the concession stands, the place that I knew would work the best would be the Cajun food stand out by the centerfield stands.

Debating between the gumbo, a crabcake sandwich, a cajun corndog and a fish or shrimp taco, I went with the fish taco because I envisioned this would work the best to soak up the hot sauce. I am sure the gumbo would’ve been fine, but I thought it might get lost in the soup-like meal. Better to go with fish. Check it out:

That is a lot of food with some of their cajun slaw, salsa and mayo creation added on top. I was liberal with the hot sauce, but you can’t even see it with the naked eye. It just worked it’s way down to the soft taco shell and swam with the fishies below. The fish taco was pretty good, and I got a little bit of a bite I wasn’t expecting. The words full bodied to me indicated that there was a heat added to the mild formula, but I wasn’t expecting much despite that. There is also a sweetness to the hot sauce that worked very nicely with the ingredients of said taco.

When I spoke to Josh Goldstein, who is the owner of the All American Hot Sauce LLC, he told me that his sauces work best as marinades and dressings for veggies. I soaked some all ready cooked shredded chicken breast in it and came back later. When I lifted the shredded chicken up, there was only the slightest presence of hot sauce left in my container. The chicken had absorbed about 2+ oz that I had poured on it. When I sampled the chicken the flavor was really delicious. Its funny how little you will notice of this hot sauce if you taste it on your finger, but on the white meat of the chicken it transformed into something special to eat.

A couple of days later, I used the same approach with a can of chicken. I made some chicken salad with some mayo and the Original Full Bodied Hot Sauce. If you really want to make a simple, yummy, low carb lunch then this is the way to go. This hot sauce has no carbs, no sugar, no fat, and no calories. Thumbs up guys.

Thanks Butch. The General is a BullDawg fan, they only eat roadkill and drink coca cola beverages.
