First of all, it wasn’t really a trip. It was more like a ten minute drive down the street. I live here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, home of the Fiery Foods & BBQ show. How lucky can one guy be? Well, I plan on telling this story in several action packed parts. There will be drama, crime, and explosions of the culinary kind.

Before I even started my pilgrimage to the Sandia Resort and Casino, I had to plan my mission carefully. There are hundreds of booths all sporting some kind of flaming tribute to the thousands of chileheads that will be flooding the floor. From chile infused candies, to molar melting extract sauces, I realized I had quite the daunting task ahead of me. So, I enlisted the help of Mrs. Devil Duck to help me cover the BBQ section of the show. She has quite the background in the restaurant industry, and is a lover of fine BBQ.

Even with that kind of assistance, I still had quite a bit to cover. What to do…What to do?

My Mission: Find a small company that hasn’t been around for very long, has a great background story and a wonderful product. Write a feature article and post it here.

If you think that sounds simple, think again. This year there ended up being a ton of young and hungry companies, all with great product and crazy histories of how they got into the business of pedaling heat. However, like the dedicated chilehead I am, I sampled seemingly endless sauces, candies and snacks in search of the right one to feature… Because there can be only one.
