It’s that time again, time to get completely caught up with my backlog of reviews. Whenever this happens something large comes about, something I call “The Mega Review”. The Mega Review is a review that has three or more sauce reviews of one line of sauces bundled up in one large article. Up today is the rest of the sauces Scotty B sent to me.
Sweet Habanero Heat Sweet n Hot Sauce Ingredients: Water, tomatoes, sugar, Red Habanero peppers, sweet onion, garlic, salt, distilled vinegar, lemon juice, ground black pepper, corn starch, spices.
Red Rage Habanero Hot Sauce Ingredients: Red Habanero peppers, vegetable juice, yellow onion, water, lemon juice, distilled vinegar, garlic, sea salt, corn starch, spices.
Devil’s Drool Habanero Pepper Sauce Ingredients: Vinegar, Red Habanero peppers, lemon juice, water, sea salt, garlic, corn starch, spices.
These three sauces have very similar characteristics with slight differences in each. That’s one of the things that I love about certain sauces. The ability to make the customer recognize that this sauce they are tasting has your signature in it. It tastes similar but is unique in it’s own right to all your other sauces.
Up first is the Sweet Habanero Heat Sweet n Hot Sauce. From the sugar, to the fruity taste of Habaneros, right down to the sweet onion, this sauce is sweet but not overtly sweet. The first flavor is the sugar (thanks for using sugar and not high fructose corn syrup) and a little hint of onion followed by the Habanero and tomato. The lemon juice follows next but is also mixed in there with the garlic. While the black pepper is visible I can’t taste it at all which is a slight disappointment (I so love ground black pepper).
The sauce has a slight “slick” feel which results from the use of corn starch so that’s the only thing I would say is a strike against it. The heat however is just spot on! It grabs a hold of your tongue right before the lemon flavor and lingers for a little bit. I would say this is a great thing for replacing that bland sweet and sour sauce packets you get at Chinese restaurants. Take it and pour it all over that egg roll for a sweet, flavorful, hot bump!
Taste: 7.6, Heat: 7.877
Going up the heat ladder we have the Red Rage Habanero Hot Sauce. The flavors in this sauce are slightly different than the Sweet Habanero Heat with the subtraction of the sugary ingredients and the addition of vegetable juice and yellow onion. Vegetable juice is the main flavor here is the vegetable juice so if you are not a fan of that then I suggest staying away from this one. It’s a bit distracting from the rest of the ingredients because it’s so up front.
Once you get past that ingredient you’ll notice the fruity Habanero taste then the side of the mouth grabbing flavor of lemon juice which is backed up by the onion. This is one of the things that is a running theme in all of Scotty’s sauces; the onion. It’s always there. Coming in as an aftertaste is the garlic, another favorite flavor of mine.
The heat is really here on this sauce. The label states “XXX Hot” and you better believe it! The burn hits you and it hits long. Oddly enough this sauce has more of a center of the tongue burn than the Sweet Habanero Heat sauce.
Taste: 6.7, Heat: 8.4
Now onto the awesomely hot Devil’s Drool Habanero Pepper Sauce. Unencumbered by complex ingredients, this sauce is simple and to the point. The slightly sweet yet definitely fruity taste of the Habanero is right up front and then you get a slight taste of vinegar which is quickly covered up by the bite of the lemon juice. The prominent use of vinegar in this sauce was slightly disheartening but luckily you really don’t notice it for long. There is also the slight linger of the garlic flavor after all is said and done.
With a name like Devil’s Drool and the picture of the horned smiley face on the label, you would expect this sauce to be hot. Yep, it doesn’t disappoint. This sucker is downright mean especially when used in the copious amounts that a chili-head like me would use it in for one sitting. So hot that I almost went for the milk…almost.
Taste: 7.9, Heat:9.0

I have never had any of Scotty B’s products. I went looking for them at Peppers and JJ’s last year and couldn’t locate them. I was told 2 of his products to buy, “Oblivion” & “Just Damn Good” Habanero were the hot sauce to buy. Not too keen on seeing corn starch in each bottle though.
Nice review.

Oblivion Is Great, but I liked the Liquid Rapture.

Liquid Rapture? Must try that one next.
Buddah, you need to try some of these sauces. All of them are meant for eatin’. The Just Damn Good and Devil’s Drool are 2 of my all-time faves from Scotty B.

Too many people told me how good they are, so I will eventually get them. Maybe at W.o.F. I will get Bret to assist me this time around.

I have to question if he is still in business- no replies despite repeated attempts to contact. Anybody know for sure? Thanks!

Jim,
We wonder about the same thing as well. We’ve recently tried to contact Scotty about some stuff, and also with no answer. That, plus the website hasn’t been updated in quite a while doesn’t improve the outlook either.

Jim, I’ve sent him an email of every review I’ve done of his products (first one was in September of last year I believe). I’ve never gotten a response back.
I hope he’s ok.
