I tried several batches of nagas from tesco over the past year or two and they ranged from no heat (I mean ZERO, as much as a tomato zero!) to low heat like a jalapeno. They also lacked the flavour I expect from nagas.

I usually order them online from sea spring but tried the tesco ones when I'd run out. Clearly something is wrong and given the time between batches it isn't an isolated bad batch. Their bonnets are lacking in flavour and heat too compared to ones I order online and from local independent store which supply the local carribean community in my city(in north west UK). I've grown my own chilli too and milder varieties of my own have turned out much hotter especially when water starved to increase capsaicin.

Personally I'd not trust the tesco ones again and i eat a lot of chilli so ordering £10 a time is ok for me but shame still since many may only want the 2 or 3 pepper bags for use on occassion that tesco do. Normally the peppers have such an intense pungent almost smoky delicious flavour that only 1 or 2 are needed to impart strong flavour to a meal for 3 or 4 people. The raw tesco ones have less flavour than a fork load of a dish for 4 cooked from 1 proper one!

I too have been eagerly awaiting the naga's. I was delighted to find them in the Tesco at Stockport but they were not hot at all :-(

My Mad Dog 357 Special Edition (rated at 600,000 SHU) is far hotter than the Naga's I got.

I had two, the first chopped into my lunch, the second raw.

I'm in agreement with Yvonne, I should have really struggled with the chillies but they were on a par with bird's eye, nothing stronger.

Hello Duong,

How do you do? This Khetoli from Nagaland. The pepper is thought to originate from Nagaland in north-eastern India. Dorset Naga is the product known as Naga Moresh and Raja Mirchi ('King of Chillies') in Nagaland, India.

But in 2006 two agronomists, Joy and Michael Michaud, in Dorset, England, bought some chili peppers at a Bangladeshi market in Bournemouth, took them home and found them extremely hot. They took some seeds and grew them in their garden and when they tested the harvested bite-size chilies they recorded an SHU of 876,000. They sent it to a laboratory in New York where it recorded even a higher SHU of 970,000. They called it Dorset nAgA recognizing that it is a variant of Bangladesh’s fiery nAgA morich. With all the certificates of analysis they applied for the “hottest pepper” status in the Guinness Book of Records. At about a million SHU, the Dorset nAgA became the hottest pepper around.

And this is how the Dorset Chille is available in UK supermarket. Otherwise, its originally from Nagaland. My family is already involve in dorset chilly business. We would be more than happy to supply you. Please feel free to contact me at kyeptho@yahoo.com
