Well, we really wish this was tongue-in-cheek humor, but it’s not. We finally got word from our main literary correspondent that he had an encounter with an unruly arachnid. His words exactly:

Basically, I’ve been bitten by a brown recluse (a particularly nasty spider) and will be incognito with the reviews until this is cleared up. My taste buds are way off, I’m using a compress every half an hour, and spending the rest of my time resting and hoping I don’t loose half of my face. So reviews are a bit of a low priority right now. I hope you understand.

If he did truly encounter a brown recluse spider, that ain’t good. Short of being bitten by a black widow spider, it’s one of the nastier spider bites that one can get. They look like this:
