At the end of 2006, our very own Chuk Hell did a review of a hot sauce from a local hot sauce maker in Austin, TX called Big Daddy’s Ass Burn. Little did we know at that time that their success story was still being written. Here’s an excerpt from a recent article from the Austin Chronicle that gives them some righteous props for their ongoing success as well as news about some upcoming products they’ll be releasing:

Hot sauce creators say marketing is a key ingredientBy JENALIA MORENO
Copyright 2007 Houston ChronicleTrevi and Becky Biles want to spread Big Daddy’s Ass Burn around the world.
Clad in their Big Daddy’s T-shirts, they regularly dole out samples of their hot sauce to crowds of wine-sipping customers at the downtown Spec’s Wines, Spirits, & Finer Foods’ monthly Tasting Tuesdays.
“You want to try some?” Becky Biles, also known as Mrs. Big Daddy, asked sample-seeking shoppers during a recent tasting event.
More than four years ago, the couple came up with the catchy name for their peppery product, but they know that isn’t enough to sell their brew.
Marketing is key in this fiercely competitive arena where sauce sales are expected to reach $7.9 billion in 2009, up from $7.6 billion in 2004, according to Packaged Facts, a division of MarketResearch.com. That category includes everything from tomato to taco to Tabasco sauces.
“We knew it was all about marketing,” said Becky Biles, as she sat at a Montrose bar, Griff’s, where patrons drank Becky’s bloody Mary mix made with the hot sauce and diners noshed on Big Daddy’s Ass Burn Wings.
And the more exciting news from Big Daddy is:
As part of their marketing strategy, they will soon unveil two more hot sauces named after bands that heavy metal aficionado Trevi Biles met while playing bass in the local group Whorehound. Oakland-based High on Fire will have its own habañero sauce and Austin-based Amplified Heat will have a smoked jalapeño hot sauce to sell at shows.

I just saw Trevi ( Big Daddy) at the Austin Hot Sauce Fest yesterday and he hooked me up with a bottle each of the HIGH ON FIRE and AMPLIFIED HEAT sauces. Full reviews will be coming soon but I’ll say right now that these are both excellent sauces; full of flavor and the HIGH ON FIRE has “kick yr. arse” heat.
ROCK’n'ROLL!!!!
