We love reading stuff like this. Nando’s, quickly becoming a house favorite with their quality products, shows that they can give back to society by helping to combat a serious problem elsewhere in the world. It’s things like this which show the generosity of the chilehead world. Way to go, Nando’s!!!
NANDO’S & Celebrity Chef Clayton Sherrod Join Forces
to Fight Malaria in Africa
Orange County, CA, August 8, 2007 - Celebrity chef and TV personality Chef Clayton Sherrod will lead a NANDO’S sponsored 10-day life saving and humanitarian mission to Lagos, Nigeria on August 14th to distribute 5,000 malaria-preventing bed nets to pregnant women and endangered children living in the malaria infested rural villages around Lagos.
Chef Sherrod will be joining world-famous explorer and humanitarian Kingsley Holgate, “The Grey Beard of African Adventure”, and a team of NANDO’S volunteers who will spearhead this time-sensitive undertaking to deliver and install these life saving nets which will be an important weapon in fighting the spread of the silent killer known as malaria which kills over 1 million unprotected children each year, and results in the loss of over $12 billion a year in productivity in Africa.
To further this fight against malaria, NANDO’S, throughout the remainder of 2007, will donate ten cents for every bottle of its famous Peri-Peri Sauce and Marinade sold worldwide for the purchase of thousands of additional life saving bed nets for the African families who live in daily fear of contracting this deadly though preventable disease.
Explains Nando’s CEO and Founder, Robert Brozin:
“We believe that Kingsley’s unselfish fight against malaria, as it takes him throughout Africa saving the lives of countless African people, proudly reflects NANDO’S philosophy while following the mysterious trail of our magical ingredient Peri-Peri made from one of Africa’s most delicious secrets – the African Bird’s eye chili. Our joint initiative with Kingsley Holgate and his dedicated team of volunteers, including Chef Sherrod and NANDO’S volunteers, will allow us to give back to a country and people who have been instrumental in our worldwide success. Holgate and is mission reflects our heritage, our attitude, and our passionate personality; and we look forward to supporting and sharing this epic African adventure with him.”
As Chef Sherrod travels throughout Africa on his 10-day humanitarian trip, he will also be learning about the different aspects of African culture as well as the fight against malaria. He will report on his findings when he returns to the US as part of an extraordinary fundraising dinner which he will prepare that showcases the cuisines of Africa using NANDO’S Peri-Peri sauces and marinades. The event date and time will be made available shortly.
