The Hot Zone

Spicy snacks that are actually both good and spicy are hard to come by, but Kentucky’s own KP’s Specialty Pepper Products has a formula for products that have every chance at becoming hugely popular. Makers of some novel spicy nuts and a few hot sauces, we became acquainted with them at this past Jungle […]

Summer so far in this part of the world has been a bit of a strain. It was really cold way into April, then all off a sudden we had temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius for about 10 days, then it was normal but a bit rainy for a week or so and then heaven opened it’s huge faucet and we had 90 mm of rain in 2 days! Now how on earth is anything going to be able to grow in a weather like that?

Sure, my plants stand in the hothouse but little does that help when there’s no sun. They just won’t grow and fruits – well yeah, one fruit on 20 plants! Guess I won’t be doing any hot sauce on my own fruits this year if this continues. As if it wasn’t enough with the weather I also have to fight “murder snails”. It’s a brown rather large snail without a shell that came here from Spain some years ago, they reckon it came on trucks with salad. It eats literally everything in its way. It has since its arrival mated with our local snail and is now more or less immune to poisons and the cold during winter. So the only way to stop it is to cut it in 2 pieces or use a hammer and then be careful as to were you throw it. If you look carefully at the pics you’ll se the holes the snails leave. My Holy Moles has all been eaten and this year it wasn’t even my dog Chili’s fault! Maybe I should train her to detect snails!

Anyway, my Naga Morich is slowly making its way and it’s a rather sturdy little plant by now. To me it looks very similar to my Habanero plants in shape and size. There’s still no flowers but its going to be interesting to see them and compare with my Hab plants. Maybe I was had for a fool when I bought the seeds, maybe its just orange Habaneros and not Naga Morich? Well if it survives this summer we should know soon!
