The Hot Zone

My introduction to these sauces and products came as an evolution-like process. First I saw the media articles come rolling across my computer screen. Then came the impressive list of awards through the Fiery Food Challenge and Scovie competitions. I even read a review or two about the sauces on another site […]

We were as thrilled as could be recently when we got a big box of hot and spicy goodies from our friends Ewa and Goran from overseas in Sweden. Through a contest done on another site which Linda runs, Ewa had won the grand prize. In true chilehead fashion, we decided to send her an all-star lineup of hot sauces and other goodies since her access to that sort of chilehead swag is fairly limited. In return, we received a pretty wonderful collection of stuff which you can see from these pics:

Here you can see Joe, resplendent in his scrubs, patiently slicing into the box to get at the goodies inside. He’s obviously not freaked out by the picture of a large dog (Boerboel) on the side of the box.

Exotic snacks…do those go with a lap dance? Seriously, those were some wasabi nuts that were so good that it nearly had us on the phone to Sweden to get more.

Here’s Joe sitting amongst the chilehead swag while Joshua tries to get at some of the chile pepper jam. It all looked good to him! The habanero truffles were good, although we didn’t eat them quick enough and most of them “turned evil” before we had a chance to enjoy them.

While most of it was purely for our gustatory enjoyment, we will be reviewing a bottle of homemade hot sauce that was included in the package. Stay tuned for that a little later!

Ewa, Tack själv så mycket!

Dude, Joe, did you just get out of bed? Look at that hair, lol. What’s in the clear bottles in the front?

Well, it was after I got from from work that those pics were taken. Since I’m in surgery almost all day, I usually have a scrub cap on for most of that time…and my hair can be a little unruly when I finally get to take it off.

Those smaller bottles of clear liquid are of Swedish akvavit. I tried it in Norway when we visited there a few years ago, and wanted to see what the Swedish version was like. Very different than I remember…so I guess I’ll need to try more! - Joe

OK Joe, we’ll keep that in mind for the next package ;) There’s a box available over here with 20 something diffrent ones…….

: goes and reads up on Akvavit:
Ok, I officially WANT SOME NOW!! Can you only get this in Sweden and Norway or are they available in the states?

Comment fired by Jonathan PassowMarch 28, 2007- 1:52 pm

Jonathan: Make your own!
We did one with Absolut vodka (available in U.S) and (I think it was) Hot lemon chiles. Great with crawfish!!!

You can also make it with the spices mentioned att wikipedia, put the spices in the Absolut vodka, leave it for some days/weeks (depending on spices and how strong a taste you’d want) and then pour the vodka through a coffe filter and drink it in shots!! Many scandinavian homes make their own home blend - especialy for midsummer!

Dan tells he he still hasn’t sent your package yet. But he’s trying…
Sounds like procrastination to me, maybe you better give him a call, man.
Have a great birthday weekend!
