Crystal Hot Sauce makes a triumphant return
Back in the late 1980’s, long before I became the chilehead that I am today, I was a college student at Tulane University in New Orleans. There I became infatuated with hot & spicy food such as jambalayas, gumbo, etouffees, red beans & rice, and all sorts of Creole dishes. One of the standard things to have there was a bottle of Crystal Hot Sauce to use on your food. Sure there were others like Tabasco and Trappey’s, but I liked to use the Crystal when it was available. My soft spot for Crystal made me pay attention to this article today in the news:
Company Brings Hot Sauce Production Back to Louisiana 18 Months After Katrina
Hey, it ain’t the best hot sauce in the world…but I liked it a lot once upon a time. Now I know of lots of better ones, but I’m happy to see Crystal on the comeback trail.

I remember that stuff when I lived in Mississippi. It was great on a catfish po-boy!!
I never saw it again when I moved back to Texas. I’ll have to look for it next time I’m in the store.

I don’t mind sharing that I’m a fan of the vinegar type hot sauces. It’s unfair that I have to compete against them in terms of cost in the consumers mind, but I sure don’t mind using them

I like Crystal on grouper fingers… when I can’t get fresh crushed goat pepper that is!
