Passow Eats the Worlds Hottest Pepper
The Naga Morich is one mean, twisted looking pepper that, when eaten, takes no prisoners. Officially weighing in at 1,041,427 SHU, it completely obliterates the current Guinness Book World Record holder for “Worlds Hottest Spice” by nearly double (the Red Savina which rates at 577,000 SHU) and on Sunday, October 1, 2006 I ate one!
I have three of these plants growing in my collection and have been eagerly anticipating for one to mature. I set up the video camera and had co-gardener/roommate Dave Reed take the pictures. Here it is, the first documented set of someone eating a Naga Morich for your viewing pleasure.

The Pepper

Just took a chunk and am putting the pepper down (the dog almost ate it because it was at his level)

The heat just kicked in…

Que the Incredible Hulk transfermation music.

AGH! Get out of my head!

Maybe if I calm myself the heat will go away…

Nope. That didn’t work.

Ow, my tongue!

The scary after shot….I think those are tears on my lip…not snot…I think….
Overall, it was an amazing experience that lasted 5 minutes. This was the pinnacle of heat that one can get naturally and also the pinnacle of capsaicin induced pain. The flavor is that of a green apple and the texture of the interior of the pepper was almost velvety, something I’ve never felt before from a pepper. On a scale of 1 to 10, this puppy rates at a 10 and is not for the faint of heart.

Call back season is NOT working out for me right now. Things are kinda dead right now on the acting arena…
And a “sucker for a man in pain”…you picked the right website to see that! hehehe

Well, ya know, it comes with the territory. I would guess that at least at one time or another everyone reading this post has been where you were in those photos!

I’ve been into hot sauces and hot peppers since I was a little kid. My father used to grow Red Hot Chilis in the garden. I’ve been buying hot sauces from Mild to Wild in Indiana for a few months now and I can eat Red Savina Garlic out of the bottle.
At a recent camping trip, my cousin broke out some green chilis he grew this past summer. I was eating them for three days and every time my mouth was on fire for an hour. I’m sure they weren’t even in the same ballpark as the Naga Morich. I looked a lot worse than you after eating them. I give you credit.
