We have had some good container years and bad when it comes to trying to get chile peppers to grow in anything else except Mother Earth. So far, I’d call this a pretty good year. That, or we may have picked a couple of plants that got a better selection of the gene pool than some of the rest we’ve grown in the past. Here you can see some of our latest pics:

Hector, our Poblano plant, is starting to gain a little ground on its chinense cousin, Achilles. For a while, it looked like the three peppers from the main stem of the plan might be all we would get. However, these have been growing along the periphery for a while and are starting to get big enough to eat!

There are still some babies as well. There are about 3 or 4 that are about this size right now. I’m actually a little worried about the plant tipping over if all the poblanos that are growing are big & ripe at the same time. Not sure what the fruit load might be on this one, but there are at least a dozen peppers growing on this one plant.

There is simply no comparison in fruit output between the two of what Achilles is doing right now. None of them are even close to being ripe yet, but they’re all a quite decent size right now. These are just a few along only one branch. I wonder what color these will be when they’re ripe. Orange? Red? Yellow?

Here’s a peek at the underside of Achilles on just one side. Very nice! No species of peppers that we’ve ever grown seems to make as many as the chinense, and we’re happy for it. If we get as many habs as expected, we may have to make a bottle or two of our own hot sauce this year just for kicks.

Suggestions on what we should do with our peppers this year? Maybe we should have a poll or something.

Haven’t witnessed dizziness either. The most common reaction I’ve seen is hiccups. I’ve suffered them myself, eating stuff that was too hot for me. Some folks also report itching and ringing of the ears.
