On nearly every long trip we make, a quest to a hot sauce shop is sure to be somewhere on our agenda. Our trip to Hollywood was no different in this regard. Thanks to the inestimable Mr. Passow, who was our guide to the streets of Tinseltown itself. After our evening repast, accompanied by some really good tequila, we ambled off to the L.A. Farmer’s Market in search of the hot shop known as Light My Fire. Peering within the shop, we saw this sight which is all-too-common to chileheads who have found a slice of hot sauce nirvana:

For a shop which is squeezed in the middle of a busy market area, they manage to have a really nice selection. Even for collector’s seeking out some prizes to add to their collection, Blair’s 2,3,4, and 5 a.m. reserves are all available there, although you have to scour the display window to find them. They have all the usual suspects there…Dave’s, Blair, etc. If you’re someone who wants an average sauce but with label graphics to entertain, just slide over to the “bikers and boobies” section where you can find any one of a plethora of bottles with tasteless graphics and the same sorta sauce. Noticeable in its absence is any of CaJohn’s sauces, so we had to put in a plug for the owner to look into getting those for his shelves as well.
There’s also a nice variety of salsas, snacks, dressings, BBQ and jerk sauces, and a few spice mixes as well. The prices are about average, and it’s worth going to see the wall o’ sauces.

Here you can see Linda stylin’ with a bottle of a new fave that we decided to purchase that day. We nearly purchased as many sauces to take home as what we brought to CA with us for our movie trip! Thank goodness we had some extra space in our carry-on for some new sauces to make the trip back with us. Our next post about the trip will show off some of our new swag from the trip. Woot!
Once again, if you’re in L.A. and wander by the Farmer’s Market, try to stop in and say hello. If you buy any sauces, make sure to tell them that we recommended them to you.
