[...] Our chili judges at work during the actual competition. See how excited Miriam Abbott was (to gentleman’s right who has his spoon in his mouth) about tasting the chili? The guys seemed more into it, to varying degrees. It was actually funny to see the judges have to drink after trying certain chilis…since none of the ones I actually tried seemed all that hot to me. Keep in mind that this was before I fried my tastebuds in the chile pepper eating contest. [...]

Tina,

It took a solid 20 minutes before my mouth stopped burning after the contest ended. The habanero really tipped the scales, though. I was getting along passably well until then.

Marv,

Never tried a raw fatalii. Given that their heat is similar to the habanero, I'll not be lining up to do that anytime real soon.

HA HA. That's awesome. As much as I love hot food I don't know if I'd want to eat a raw habanero. I salute you, Joe!

Ya know...jalapenos USED to be hot but these days most of the ones in the supermarket are of the mild ilk...not much hotter than bell peppers. At least the ones I grow are still hot...the way a jalapeno SHOULD be!
