Some uses for habanero powder are not intrinsically obvious, so sometimes we rely on a little inspiration to decide how to use some of our pile of hot & spicy swag. With a recent order from from the fine folks at Extremefood.com, we picked up a bottle of Death Rain Habanero Dry Rub. Even though it’s technically only 1.5 ounces, it’s an ounce and a half that can really light you up. Staring at a pile of mundane-looking raw hamburgers, an idea struck me.
Why not turn tonight’s dinner into hamburgers a la Blair?

The raw ingredients
So you can see the basics…some oversized hamburger patties and the habanero rub. I didn’t know how much to use, except for my experience using other spice rubs on other kinds of meat. So I set out to apply my precious habanero rub to the burgers to that my victims…er, family, would have some pretty bitchin’ hamburgers.

Spreading the love
About a tablespoon or so per burger did the trick. Spreading it out as thin as I could get away with, I let the habanero rub sit on the meat for about an hour or so. By then, it would have worked its insidious capsaicin mischief into these unsuspecting flattened meat patties. After the hour had passed, I giggled and guffawed my way out to the ol’ BBQ grill sitting out on our deck.

The finished product
So this is what the Blairburgers looked like after some outdoor grilling. Unless you looked closely, it was hard to see the coating of habanero rub on the meat, but its presence was definitive after only one bite. Truth be known, I was the only one to dare these babies during that meal, and I made other plain ol’ cheeseburgers for the rest of the family to enjoy. As for me, I happily munched and sweated my way through some fabulously spiced hamburgers. Give it a try on your grill. You might like it as much as I did.
